Why a Tuscan BBQ franchise?

Franchising is a commercial relationship/arrangement, where a franchisor licenses the franchisee to use the franchisors know-how, proven methods and brand name, to conduct business for mutual benefit. Initial training, continuous support and a proven business system provided by the franchisor are all elements that combine to help the franchisee run a successful business.

The intellectual property and business systems supplied by Tuscan BBQ has been compiled by world leaders in the field of franchising, in conjunction with Tuscan BBQ management. Tuscan BBQ currently operate five outlets.

Tuscan BBQ is a member of the Franchise Association of South Africa (FASA) and is committed to ethical franchising and the conducting of their business.

What is required to become a Tuscan BBQ Franchisee?

There is an application process after which each applicant will be evaluated individually.

The following attributes should be identified in an applicant:

i) Business, retail or restaurant management experience.&;

ii) Owner operator (It is a FACT that hands on operators increase profitability!);

iii) Hard working, being able to cope with long hours.

iv); Excellence in service levels. Franchisees must be able to enforce discipline, Tuscan BBQ standards of control, etc.

v) Customer orientated people's person, positive mindset, pro-active operator, etc.

vi) Has to understand and be willing to learn the Tuscan BBQ business systems.

vii) Ability to work with and develop skills of large staff compliment.

viii) Credit worthy and have available capital to set up this large buffet style Restaurant.

(50% of total set up cost, unencumbered)

Who is the Franchisor?

The franchisor of Tuscan BBQ Buffet Restaurants is Tuscan BBQ Holdings (Pty) Ltd. The directors of Tuscan BBQ Holdings are Allan van Wyngaardt and Eugene Lewis. Both Allan and Eugene spearhead the franchise company and are directly involved in maintaining the Tuscan BBQ brand.

Other key members of the management team include Bennie Naude - Project manager; building operations, Ilse Potgieter - currently manages the Tuscan BBQ Administration and Financial Services Company.

Lize van der Merwe, Roelof Potgieter, Frederik Swanepoel and Bennie Piennaar are part of the senior management at store level and will co-ordinate and execute the franchise training.

The Application process:

a) Fill in the attached application form and submit, alternatively call Tuscan BBQ Holdings (Pty) Ltd. Angeline Viljoen Tel: 0860 887 227 to complete telephone screening.

b) Once the initial screening has taken place and Tuscan BBQ has evaluated your application we will contact you to set up a meeting with the management team. - The screening includes a reference and a credit worthiness check.

c) The disclosure document will be handed over at this meeting for the prospective franchisee's perusal.

d) Site evaluation.

e) Completion of the funding process.

f) Approval/rejection confirmed by the franchisor.

g) Franchise agreement issued and Initial Franchise fee paid.

h) Training dates set.

i) Evaluation of franchisee training.

Costs involved in setting up a Tuscan BBQ Franchise.

The estimated amount of capital required to open a 450 seater Tuscan BBQ, approximately R3 500 000 (Three and a half million Rand) There are many variables, including but not limited to:

i) Site - the size/location of the site is of utmost importance.

ii) Extent of the landlords contribution - if any!

iii) Electrical allotment, mezzanines, conference facilities, etc.

iv) Design of store - buffet, kitchen, seating areas, etc.

All the above will be taken into consideration and an estimated cost can only be done once the location has been secured and a site survey is completed.

Other costs to be taken into consideration:

i) Initial Franchise Fee, R105 000 Excl VAT - once off.

ii) Deposits - rental, municipal etc.

iii) License Fees, stamp duties, lawyer fees, submission and plan approval.

iv) Staff training period - salaries, transport, meals, accommodation, uniforms etc.

v) Operational capital.

Allocation of the Initial Franchise Fee.

i) Franchise evaluation and determining suitability.

ii) Assist with site evaluation and landlord lease negotiation.

iii) Rights to the use of the Tuscan BBQ brand, trademarks, logos etc.

iv) Initial Training program:

- Franchisee training - minimum 14 days working open to close shifts in a franchisor selected operation, thereafter 6 weeks working shifts (depending on franchisee profile).

v) On site support for a minimum of 1 week (depending on franchisee capabilities & level of knowledge)

vi) Access to all Intellectual Property, namely:

- Operations & Procedures manual

- Recipe CD's

- Estimated cash flows/budgets for initial 5 years

vii) Turnkey operation (excluding travel, accommodation & subsistence costs for franchisor or Head Office representative - depending on the location of the franchisees site.)

viii) Tuscan BBQ Admin & Finance Company will assist with the registration of your business with all relevant institutions, namely:

a) Registration of the Company.

b) Income Tax.

c) PAYE/UIF

d) VAT

e) Workmen's Compensation

ix) Assist with liquor license application

x) Assist with the marketing launch program for new stores as determined by the franchisor from time to time- site dependant.

Monthly management service fee?

1) A monthly management service fee of 5% on your store turnover is payable to the Franchisor.

"Turnover" means the gross turnover generated from the business, whether cash or credit, which includes, but not limited to: all sales by the business of food products, alcohol, beverages and all other products and service of the business, whether or not identified by the trademarks and whether consumed on or off the premises, but excluding any value added tax (or any similar tax which may replace it) including any amount paid by an insurance company, or any other body in respect of loss of income.

2) A monthly marketing fee of 2% on your store's turnover.

The marketing fee is mainly applied to the following:

a) Brand management

b) Market research and product development

c) Advertising and promotional campaigns

d) Sponsorship and public relations.

e) Merchandising materials

An annual meeting will be held during which all franchisees will receive feedback regarding the way the marketing fund was a pplied, the franchisees will also be able to add their thoughts and ideas.

3) The monthly fees will be payable as follows:

On or before the 7th day of each month, commencing on the 7th day after the commencement date, and thereafter on the 7th day of each succeeding month, and payment shall be made by way of debit order into the franchisor's bank account, the details whereof shall be furnished to the franchisor, and may be subject to change from time to time.

The Franchise agreement:

The Franchise agreement is a non-negotiable legal document, the period of this agreement shall be for 7(seven) years commencing from the signature date, and is renewable for a further 7(seven) years depending on certain conditions as explained in the above mentioned document. Tuscan BBQ management strongly recommend that you make use of a lawyer to explain all terms and conditions of this and other related agreements

The Franchisor - Support:

Tuscan BBQ offers a turnkey operation which allows for the franchisee to attend training while his store is being built, however it is vital that the franchisee is involved in this set up process and as such shall be kept informed. The building capital is placed into an account which is administered by the parties (franchisor and franchisee) involved. The Franchisor shall send at least one representative to spend a minimum of one week with the franchisee for start-up support (depending on franchisee capabilities and level of knowledge).

Tuscan BBQ Holdings (Pty) Ltd assumes their responsibility of recruiting, training and supporting franchisees very seriously. The training is designed to ensure that franchisees have the basic skills to successfully operate the Tuscan BBQ outlet. The initial training shall cover the menu preparation, operational systems and standards, the point of sales (POS) system and product knowledge.

In addition to the initial training, the company may, from time to time, offer special training courses to all franchisees and their representatives and staff. Ongoing support is done by a qualified franchisor consultant on a monthly basis or as required due to need for further support and assistance.

This support will be offered based on Quality Controls done at regular intervals.

Providing advice and consultation with respect to:

i) recommend price structure

ii) general advice to enable the franchisee to operate the business.

iii) sales and marketing advice.

iv) desired levels of operation relating to meals and service levels.

v) measuring the franchisees performance, relating to all functions of operating the business, including but not limited to financial operations.
